Camels and Me

Last time I was on a camel I remember being very sore....and it's still like that!

I must say though that the overnight safari was simply amazing!

We left our guest house around 2 pm and made a quick stop at the Royal Cenotpahs before starting our safari.

Our camels were waiting for us.

We each had our own camel.

I had the only camel that was not attached to others...so I really 'drove' it on my own. Very scary at times.

All the camels were male. Mine was 7 years old. Rata was his name.

We rode for about 2.5 hours..braving all the desert elements of wind, sun and then the cold.

Once we got to our spot....part of Sam's dunes....we had beers and snacks waiting for us which we drank and ate while watching the sun go down. Beautiful!

Our camel guides cooked dinner for us....dahl with naan bread....yummy! We were all very hungry...so dinner did not take that long.

After dinner we all sat by the fire and enjoyed the local dancers and music from one of the villages nearby who came to entertain us.

Our beds were set up under the moon.....no shelter....so we all bundled up in our blankets and went to sleep in the freezing freezing cold.

The next morning around 7 am we had a quick breakfast and rode back. Boy that hurt.

I'm not a big fan of camel riding.

They sure are odd animals.
